Netflix has announced that The Witcher series is being turned into an English TV Drama.
Based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher has been a popular video game franchise among both gamers and critics alike. Netflix has now decided to bring the fantasy to life as an English Drama Series. Here’s what Andrzej Sapkowski had to say – “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
Sean Daniel (The Mummy Franchise, Ben-Hur) and Jason Brown (The Expanse) will be the Executive Producers for the series – “The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix.”
“There is a morel and intellectual depth in these books which goes beyond genre. It is a story about today and today’s challenges, hidden under a fantasy cover. It is a story about us, about the monster and the hero inside all our hearts” – Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko, CG visual effects company Platige Image.
No images have been released regarding this project from Netflix, and so it is still unclear whether it will be CG animated, live-action or a mix of the two. There is also no word on what stories the Netflix series will follow, casting or a release date.
