ESL and Nodwin Gaming have announced the ESL India Premiership with a staggering prize pool of INR 42 lakhs/ 64k USD.
The Tournament(s) will span over the course of nine months and will be spread out across six online starter cups, two Lan events and one grand finale with tournament matches broadcast live on Twitch daily.
“ESL mission is to increase the popularity of esports across the globe. We are excited to help building up the esports community in India with Nodwin. The country’s diverse communities, along with the fact that India embraces technology like no other place, makes it a perfect candidate,” said Ralf Reichert, Managing Director of ESL. “We are very excited to get started with the ESL India Premiership, and I personally can’t wait to experience it live, as I’m sure the crowd will be fantastic. In the meantime, we will ensure that we can deliver a world-class experience – both online and offline – to the local and international fans, and hope this tournament series helps foster growth in the region.”
ESL India Premiership will feature 3 of the top Esports in the world, Counter Strike Global Offensive, DOTA 2 and Hearthstone along with the introduction of Just Dance. While I don’t really agree on the inclusion of Just Dance in the mix, if it gets us a proper Esports Platform for the major games then I guess I can learn to ignore it.
Given the massive prize pool and regular nature of events this might bring some much needed stability into the Esports scene in India. Could this finally be the push that Esports needs in India to be taken seriously by the masses and of course the parents? Stay tuned to JAGS.IN as we closely follow the tournament and reactions from around the country.
